iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S for Photography

As most people know the iPhone 5 was announced today.  I will leave most of the specs to the tech sites, but I did want to talk about the camera.  The iPhone 4S was the first possible point-n-shoot replacement in my opinion.

So did the iPhone 5 improve on the 4S camera?  Yes, but nothing mind blowing.  The iPhone 5′s camera features the same 8-megapixel sensor as the 4S and the same 1080p HD video capture capability.  The iPhone 5 has a new, faster, processor so snapping photo’s promises to be a bit faster.  There’s also a new dynamic low light mode and backside illumination.  The iPhone camera like the 4S has an optimized five-element sapphire lens, ao hybrid IR filter, and an f/2.4 aperture.

The camera also gets a fancy new name.  The camera is now called iSight.  The front facing camera get’s a bump up, but that camera is not really for taking photos.

The iPhone 5 looks like a great phone, but there is nothing there to make me want to upgrade from the iPhone 4S.
